About Chalkdown Cleaning
We're new, and we publish our prices, our room-by-room checklist and the limits of our own guarantee, so you can weigh the whole thing up before you ever speak to us.
Why is the business called Chalkdown?
The water here is hard because the whole of North Kent sits on chalk, and hard water leaves limescale on taps, shower screens and inside kettles and ovens. A chalk down is the ground this business works on, and the residue that ground leaves behind is a large part of what we spend our time removing. The name is a description of the job.
It matters practically as well as poetically. Limescale is why a shower screen goes cloudy again days after someone wiped it, and why the film on an oven door won't shift with a spray and a cloth. Knowing what you're up against changes how long a job takes and what you use on it.
What exactly are you promising?
There are ten, and they're written as promises you can check against the rest of the site. They cover what a job costs, what's included, what the checklist means, what the guarantee does and doesn't cover, and what we won't claim until it's true. Hold us to the numbered list.
- Every price is published before you contact us. Regular cleaning is £19 an hour with a two hour minimum visit, and the rest of the ladder is on the pricing page.
- Cleaning products and equipment are included in that price, and there's no call-out fee anywhere we cover.
- You pay after the visit. There's no contract, nothing to sign, and no minimum term on regular cleaning.
- The prices are the same in Greenhithe, Stone, Swanscombe, Ebbsfleet, Dartford, Northfleet and Gravesend. Travel is already inside that number.
- Every service has a written room-by-room checklist, published before you book. The checklist is the contract.
- If we've missed something on the checklist we agreed, tell us within 48 hours and we'll come back and re-clean the affected areas free. Those 48 hours are just how long you have to let us know, and the return visit is booked at the earliest time you can give us access.
- The exclusions to that guarantee are printed next to it: pre-existing damage, permanent staining, mould, and areas we couldn't get access to.
- Every single enquiry gets an answer.
- No reviews, star ratings, badges, accreditations or trading history appear on this site until they're real. Before our first clean there will be public liability insurance in place and a DBS check for every cleaner, and as soon as those certificates exist they'll be published right here. Every written quote will include the insurance certificate and DBS details before you pay anything.
- There's no phone number and no email address on this site, because the business doesn't have either yet. The quote form is the way to reach us, and the moment a number exists it goes on every page.
How do you decide when a clean is finished?
The checklist decides. Before the first visit we agree a written list of rooms and tasks, and the clean is finished when that list is finished. If you look at something afterwards and it's on the list and it isn't done, that's our error to fix, and the 48-hour guarantee is how you make us fix it.
Two things follow from working that way. Quotes get more accurate, because we have to think about what is actually in the job before we price it. And disagreements get shorter, because there's a document to point at instead of two different memories of a conversation at the door.
The checklist for each service is published on that service page, so you can read it before you send an enquiry.
Who is behind Chalkdown Cleaning?
Nobody is named here yet. The people who'll run the cleans aren't confirmed, so a name, a face or a stock photograph on this page would be something we had made up. When the first team is confirmed, their details go in this space, on this page, and you'll be able to see when it changed.

Founder and team details go here as soon as there's a real person to name.
What happens before your first clean?
Two things have to be in place before anyone from Chalkdown Cleaning works in your home: public liability insurance, and a DBS check for every cleaner. Neither is done yet, because the business hasn't started trading. As soon as those certificates exist they'll be published right here.
When they exist, they travel with the quote. Every written quote includes our insurance certificate and DBS details before you pay anything, so the paperwork is in front of you at the moment you're deciding.
The badges this site eventually carries will link to the document behind them, so you can open it and read it for yourself.
Ready to try us on one job?
One job is a fair test for a business with no history. Pick the smallest thing you want doing, check the price against the published ladder, and hold the result against the checklist. If we've missed something, you've got 48 hours to say so and we'll come back and put it right free of charge.
